Front Row – Kirsty Lang – ‘Art as Life’, Bauhaus exhibition.

In Front Row on 4th May Kirsty Lang and the Artist Michael Craig-Martin discussed the major new exhibition of work from the Bauhaus school in the 1920’s, ‘Art as Life’. They reflected on how the world that the Bauhaus movement set out to create is very much the contemporary aesthetic of the world today, complete with the minimalist white space of the Apple Store.

I was interested by Michael Craig-Martin’s reference to Bath Academy of Art in 1966. He was offered a teaching job after graduating by the head of the Academy Clifford Ellis, who saw Corsham Court as Britain’s answer to the Bauhaus. I am currently based at the postgraduate centre at Corsham Court and am very interested by this heritage.

The exhibition is open until 12th August.
